The Florentine Building was originally built to be the Club Florentine, by Henry Upson Sims between 1925 and 1927. The Florentine features an Italianate style with marble columns, cast-iron lighting, and terra-cotta framing. It is said that Sims built the magnificent building to honor a favorite school teacher, who had taken him and his classmates on a tour of Italy. While the Club Florentine was not successful, over the years it became home to many different businesses, shops, and restaurants. Eventually, this beautiful, hidden gem became vacant for many years.
The owners of Corretti Catering--Rebecca Corretti and Ken Effinger-- bought The Florentine and began extensive renovations. The renovations kept the Italian style, and as many original features as possible. The Florentine made it’s grand opening at the beginning of 2015, and is the home of Birmingham’s newest wedding and event venue, and the deliciousCorretti Catering.
This past weekend we had the honor to be a part of a very special wedding at The Florentine, and we enjoyed working with the phenomenal staff. There was plenty of room, and was able to accommodate over two hundred guests. The venue was very classy, and definitely made for an original and memorable wedding.
The Florentine would be a magnificent wedding venue to pick, and would fit a variety of popular wedding themes and parties. From Great Gatsby, Roaring ‘20s, to vintage themes-- just to name a few. Call the friendly, and very helpful staff at The Florentine; and make your own little piece of history together in one of Birmingham’s grandest and historic buildings today!
