Music is an important part of a wedding reception, and it sets the tone for the night.
Check out our tips to create an awesome playlist for your reception that your guests will enjoy.
Play Crowd Appropriate Music
We suggest to stick to the classics, throw in some generational hits, and keep it clean. Playing explicit music will make some of your guests feel very uncomfortable. There are going to be children at your reception and your Great Aunt Sally will be there, so keep guests in mind when picking music. This is your wedding, not a club, so keep it classy.
Use Your DJ Company’s Online Customer Request System
When you book your professional DJ with us, you get to customize your playlist! This is a huge selling feature to brides, because they love customizing their music. We have an online database with thousands of songs to choose from for your ceremony and reception music! We have music from the classics to the hits of today; and it’s so much fun to listen to the songs and customize your music list.
With us, you can also create aDo Not Playlist, and you can list songs or genres that you absolutely don’t want to hear at your wedding. Utilize this feature, because we will not play any music on your Do Not Playlist, so let us know if a song reminds you of your ex…or if you just hate a song! If it’s on the Do Not Playlist, we won’t play it at your reception. Promise.
Ask your friends what songs they would like to hear, and put it on your playlist! As soon as the music starts, I’m sure they’re going to get up and dance when their jam comes on! Make sure you play your favorite jams and head out to the dance floor! Your guests will follow you to dance; and your bestie knows when your favorite jam comes on.
Plan a Date Night to Pick Out Music
Music was such an important part to us for our wedding, so the selling point for us was getting to pick out the music for my wedding. I booked On-Site Productions for my wedding DJ before I ever started working here! When I was engaged, my hubby and I would havedate night and pick out music for our wedding. We would order take-out, and then we’d listen to music online, and decide if it would make it to our playlist. It was time that we got to spend together and talk about music—and one of our favorite parts of wedding planning!
Sing Along Songs
Participation songs are key to get your guests on the dance floor. Let’s face it though, you’re going to have a few guests that just won’t get out on the dance floor. Play a sing-along song…and voila! Those guests that won’t dance are going to sing their little hearts out! Generational songs are perfect for a sing-along. “Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey is a super popular crowd favorite. Hands down. Everyone is going to sing-along with this song—and you’re also going to have people dance with you on this one.
