Why should you hire a professional DJ over a hobbyist for your wedding day?
What's the difference anyway, right? That's probably what you're thinking... but as you'll see...there are a ton of differences between the two!
Recently, we had several brides contact us that had previously hired someone else to DJ their weddings. Unfortunately, who they hired cancelled on them. When a bride's wedding is fast approaching, this has to be a terrible feeling when left struggling to find a vendor that still has availability. Talk about major stress right there! Luckily, with each of these brides, we've happened to have one DJ still available for each case, and we were able to save the day.
Now, I don't know the specifics in each of these cases, and never asked them who they had originally hired. There's no reason to open up old wounds.
However, I have a theory as to why their DJ may have cancelled on them, and I think it's possible they hired a hobby DJ over a professional. So let's talk about the difference between a hobby DJ and a professional DJ, and why you should always, always,ALWAYS hire a professional!
What is a Hobby DJ?
A hobby DJ is someone who has dabbled as a disk jockey, and does it for fun. It's a side business—not a full time career, and they probably aren't working weddings each week. They are inexperienced. We've seen the weddings with the hobby DJs: the one who played the wrong song for the first dance, terrible sound quality, not speaking well on the mic, to even displaying “business cards” on the DJ table or a tacky set-up. Yep. We've seen all of these things when a couple tries to cut corners and hire a hobby DJ.
What is a Professional DJ?
When you hire a professional DJ, you are hiring someone who has ample experience working weddings. Here at On-Site Productions, our DJs are highly qualified, and they have had extensive training before they ever work a wedding. To a professional DJ, nothing is more important than your wedding day!
Why Should You Hire a Professional DJ?
A professional DJ works weddings for a living—so your wedding day is their first priority. When you book a professional DJ, your wedding is the only event he does for the day. A professional DJ is going to spend time building your playlist that is customized to the music you want to hear, and he's going to touch base with you closer to the wedding, and help you along the way. You'll talk with your DJ and he will know what song you want played and when—no playing the wrong first dance song! He isn't going to go down a playlist, he's going to mix it up with the songs you've requested and watch the crowd. Since he's had extensive training, you can be sure that he can read the crowd, and will get you and your besties on the dance floor!
You get what you pay for. Why would you cut corners on your wedding day, and risk something happening that could have been prevented? Hire a professional, and you'll be glad that you're in good hands with someone who goes out each week to DJ WEDDINGS!!!
